The C-5 Galaxy

The C-5 is one of the largest aircraft in the world and was designed to transport army units along with their equipment.  The C-5 wingspan is 222 feet and its maximum takeoff weight is 860,000 pounds yet the landing gear permits the airplane to operate on the same strength runways as required for the C-130.  An aggressive modernization program is currently underway to upgrade avionics, install autopilot features and improve navigation and safety equiptment.
